The Garden In Winter

We've had a bit of a thaw for the past few days. But it's not over yet
... that's more than 2 months away.

They issued a smog advisory yesterday, the first ever for February. But
what you see in the February garden is mist. It creeps in regularly due
to our proximity to Lake Ontario, though not usually in winter.

I looked out around the time the sun was setting behind the clouds and
mist ... and had to run out, camera in hand, knowing that in a few
minutes the mood of the day would be swallowed by darkness.

Hey, meh...
that image of the ice crystals is really top stuff, delightfully
insightfully pleasant to gaze upon... your eye for coolness never ceases to
amaze me... looking forward to a future bright with more colorful ee
imagery.

Hey, tanks El Don. My eyes crave colour in the blackish and whitish landscape,
but will settle for form and special effects by nature. My only criterion for
going out there, camera in hand, is that it be above freezing. I took 84 shots
in about a half an hour this afternoon ... always hoping to capture more of
the real magic that is the natural world.

84:1 odds is pretty good odds in the crap shoot that is digital
photograffie. I have shot 84+ on many a day to only to capture that sole
"memorable event." I am happy see you venturing out into the frozen tundra
that is "your pad." 1 out of 84 ain't bad... and 5 out of 84 is much
better... but your ice crystal shot is about 1 in 500 or maybe more... a
keeper among keepers. It's a keeper's keeper... or even a keeper's keeper's
keeper. It's the kind of image Shop Keepers would love to get a hold of...

8 x12 print surrounded by a lairge, elegant white matting set- up, and a
thin black metal frame.... (you know the style, so prevalent in the yuppie
homes of modern today.) 16 x 20 if the truth be told....
mmm-hmm, grrrrl. That's what I'm talkin' bout, know wha'm thayin...?

I'm still amazed by how the snow on your planet falls into blocks like
that...
very elegant...

I think that's just severe Pixilation due to the extreme contrast range.

I KNOW!~
Sheesh!

You would think someone who is really into digital imaging could afford a
higher resolution megapixel dealibobber thingy...

Thanks, girlfriend ... in more ways than one! :-D

I emailed you some of them in the large size. Guess they fell into the void.

Glad to you saw the small versions, at least. The misty shots are like hand coloured B&W infrared film to
me. I used to do that ... shoot B&W film, process it, make prints in my darkroom, and then hand colour
them with Marshall's photographic inks.

It was an enjoyable time consuming process where you couldn't take back mistakes. I had to layer the
dilute tints on until the right amount of saturation was reached etc.

These days I have photoshop. What a difference 2 decades makes. One day, when 35mm film is all but
obsolete, I will take it up again in a big way. A little bit of alchemy goes a long way in the future ...
at least as a form of artistic expression from the past.

Hope your projects are nearing completion, and that you're happy with them.

Hugs,
Ether
